Bette Midler (born December 1, 1945) is an American singer, actress and comedienne. She guest starred in the episode "The Understudy" as herself. In the episode, Midler was to appear in the fictional Broadway play Rochelle, Rochelle, but was injured by George in a softball game. Jerry, who was dating Midler's understudy, is accused of getting George to injure Midler so his girlfriend could star in the play (a possible parody of the Tonya Harding-Nancy Kerrigan scandal). Kramer is a big fan of Midler, and resents both George and Jerry for what they did.
