The Dog is the fourth episode of Season Three of Seinfeld and the twenty-first episode overall. It aired on October 9, 1991.

Summary

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

Jerry meets a guy on a plane who gets sick and Jerry is forced to look after his dog, Farfel, until he gets out of hospital - but when the guy doesn't show up a few days later, Jerry, suspecting the owner is a drunk, begins to lose his patience and threatens to put Farfel into a pound. Elaine Benes tells him to wait one more day and let her stay with the dog. On the day that Elaine is taking care of the dog, the sick guy from the plane comes to pick the dog up.

Meanwhile, since Jerry Seinfeld is never around because he is always taking care of the dog, Elaine Benes and George Costanza are forced to spend all their time together, and they realize they have nothing in common without Jerry around, except that they enjoy making fun of him together.

Cosmo Kramer breaks up with his girlfriend (unseen) in a dramatic fashion, and tries to get back together with her in the same way.

Notes About Nothing

Farfel is actually never seen, but only heard.

Elaine, George and Jerry were supposed to see the movie Prognosis Negative when Jerry had to stay home with the dog.

Quotes

Jerry: I'm telling you, the guy's a drunk. He's probably on a bender.

Elaine: What is a bender anyhow?

Jerry: I don't know. They drink and they bend things at the bar.

Jerry: Great. Two hundred seats on a plane, and I gotta get stuck next to Yukon Jack and his dog, Kujo!

Elaine: Hello? No, who's calling? Oh, my God, the dog guy. Where have you been? Yeah, well, you better pick up your dog tonight or he has humped his last leg.
